Portraits of Whistler

Today I started a new, and hopefully relatively simple conservation project. The binding came to me with its front board detached, and scuffed corners and the head and tail of the spine (semi-detached) are also damaged.

TREATMENTS –

Corner consolidation with WSP clamped between melinex and covered with kozo-shi:

Skinned fly leaf repair, using WSP, and toned tissue to infill a loss:

Toned Kozo used to repair the head and tail of the spine, and any splits along the joint.

Kozo lined aerocotton and toned appropriately, and pasted under the cloth on the LH board and over the spine lining. With an added half hollow to reattach the spine.

Tone the corner repairs.

The rest of the repairs I’ll finish tomorrow and then upload the after photos.
